Founded by Ravenna Hunt-Hendrix, Liturgy is part of a common discipline of composition, art, and philosophy that feeds on the exploration of in-between spaces. With guitarist Mario Miron, bassist Tia Vincent-Clark, and drummer Leo Didkovsky. 93696 is the purest synthesis of Liturgy's diversity, a sprawling double album that explores religion, cosmic love, the feminine, and metamorphosis while manifesting ecstasy with breathtaking grandeur. The term "transcendental black metal" is used to describe the band's music, straddling metal, art music, and sacred rituals. The band was founded in the DIY context of Brooklyn as a solo project by Hunt-Hendrix in 2005 while she was studying philosophy and classical composition at Columbia.
