When you place this record on your turntable, do not try to adjust the sound. It overflows, it saturates, it explodes, it scrapes and it squeaks in the highs. But that’s normal, it’s Little Richard, the most uninhibited, transgressive, and joyful of the original rockers. The tracks on this first album are little devils that jump out of a box to possess the legs and minds of the young audience. Little Richard pushed the boundaries of rock at the time, immediately imitated poorly by his contemporaries (Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran...). These fiery tracks were recorded in the mid-fifties in New Orleans, according to the customs and traditions of local music: swaying rhythm, battered boogie-woogie piano, lively brass, and vocal eccentricity at its peak. Sixty years later, it remains outrageously sacrilegious and outrageous.
