Little Richard, whose real name is Richard Wayne Penniman, is an American pianist, songwriter, performer, and actor, born on December 5, 1932. He is one of the creators of rock 'n' roll from the late 1950s. Along with Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, and Bo Diddley, he is one of the first black rock 'n' roll musicians to gain favor with white audiences. A rebellious personality, Little Richard marked his era with his songs (which he chants while screaming) and his flamboyant outfits, all characteristics that helped define the tone and image of rock 'n' roll. He has significantly influenced musicians of the next generation: the Beatles, especially Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Elton John, David Bowie, and the singer and musician Prince.
