Description

When asked to attempt a definition of her music, she called it lyrical expressionism. The choice of this term speaks volumes about the emotional intensity of Elzbieta Sikora's music, which can reflect the experience of her two countries of origin, Poland and France, but is also a consequence of her artistic maturation at a time when two powerful trends – the avant-garde and neo-classicism – were vying for prominence. Such a label may also result from the emphasis the artist places on the listener as a target, whom she invariably seeks to surprise, shock, or unsettle.
The album CONCERTOS depicts the composer's specialty by presenting three unique works: the Violin Concerto No. 1 (with violinist Linus Roth and the NOSPR orchestra conducted by José Maria Florencio), her Organ Concerto (Mari Fukumoto – organ, NFM Wroclaw Philharmonic, conducted by Pascal Rophé) and the Piano Concerto (Adam Kosmieja – soloist, Sinfonia Varsovia, conducted by Bassem Akiki). The composer thus recalls her work on the Piano Concerto and Orchestra No. 1 "Hommage à Frédéric Chopin": "I practically tried to forget Chopin or any type of piano concerto and make it my own."
Elzbieta Sikora acquired French nationality and has lived in Paris since 1981.
