If the days of rap metal are numbered, we can rightly think that Linkin Park might well outlast it. The first two songs of this new album are enough to corroborate this: Given Up bursts forth with powerful riffs, metal for sure, but ones that guitarists have been playing since Black Sabbath. Leave Out All The Rest, which closely follows, seems tailor-made for the series The OC and demonstrates that the band has never forgotten that melodies are crucial. While Billed It Out takes them a bit back, Shadow Of The Day has everything to become a modern anthem like U2. Above all, The Little Things You Give Away, the long anti-Bush diatribe that closes this fourth album, and to which the production by Rick Rubin and Mike Shinoda pays more than just homage, confirms the potential of a band built to last.
