It sometimes takes just a little to travel, to immerse oneself for a moment in some memory. And it is on the Danish coasts of her childhood that Line Kruse found the source of her new album bånd.
Line Kruse has always invited us on her journeys, and her five previous albums draw a precise map of her encounters and discoveries in the territories of Afro-Latin jazz.
The brilliant Invitation, with the Trio Lopez Nussa and Dayme Arocena, revisited Prokofiev and the best of Cuban jazz. With Hidden Stone, she crossed the bow with a full big band, under a heavy fire of Afro-Peruvian percussion.
More limited in her travels (pandemic constraints) but not in her inspiration, Line Kruse called upon her long-time friends, the septet that accompanies her on her tours in Scandinavia. They are not strangers on the Danish scene, and the line-up of this sixth album almost resembles all-stars. But it is not so much for their respective CVs that the seven came together, but for their friendly ties. "We have known each other for a long time, and I believe that can be heard in the way we play together. There is great joy in being reunited, it is always very relaxed, and I think that is even more important in the period we are going through. I named this record bånd, which means 'link' in Danish, in homage to everything that connects us, to others, to our countries of origin and adoption, our cultures that are enriched by our encounters."
