The Dutch band Lewsberg is set to release their fourth studio album, Out And About, scheduled for September 2023. Since their debut in 2016, Lewsberg has steadily gained momentum. Although they have never really considered themselves a "productive band," they have nonetheless released three LPs, an EP, and a series of cassettes and 7'', including Six Hills released in 2022 on Speedy Wunderground (a series of singles produced by Dan Carey).
Lewsberg takes its name from the Rotterdam writer Robert Loesberg, famous for his dangerous novel Enige Defecten from 1974. It is one of the main sources of inspiration for the band: the counterculture and cynicism of the big cities of the 1960s and 1970s. However, the music and lyrics of Lewsberg also have a more tender side. On their upcoming album, Out And About, this facet is more present than ever. The rudimentary pop and rock songs are deliberately stripped down, enhanced by arrangements with violin or organ. In the lyrics, the tendency towards existentialism and dark humor is tempered by an almost naive commitment from the band.
Compared to their first three albums, Out And About seems lighter, reminiscent of the laid-back sound of bands like The Feelies, Marine Girls, and Young Marble Giants, while remaining distinctly Lewsberg. The album will be self-released worldwide (except in North America where it will be released via 12XU) on September 15. To mark the album's release, Lewsberg will hit the road, with dates planned in Europe and North America.
