In October 1986, Eric and Christophe went to London to VINYL SOLUTION to finalize the signing of the next Thugs album on this label. VINYL SOLUTION, a boutique label run by two Frenchmen, had been interested in the Angers band since "Frenetic Dancing." GOUGNAF MOUVEMENT had sent them the record, they sold about a hundred copies, and managed to get numerous reviews in the music press. They had hoped, like others, to release "Radical Hystery." A sort of Thugs mania is about to sweep across Western Europe; we know that Greece has already succumbed to the electric charms of Hystérie Radicale, and an English label is the best way to drive the point home. Indeed, this will allow "Electric Troubles" to be released in Germany, Spain, and France as well, through CLOSER. The Thugs will assert, with "Electric Troubles" and the maxi "Dirty White Race," their sound and their way of doing rock’n roll. "Radical Hystery" laid the groundwork; these two records will definitively establish the Thugs trademark, something between the Beatles and Motörhead, as they described themselves since "Frenetic Dancing," neither hardcore nor pop, nor noise nor punk, all of that at once and even more. A wall of guitars over which a melody rides, a simple and effective recipe pushed here to its peak. Perhaps this is due to the expertise of the English studios (Redwood, the one used by the Monty Python for the anecdote, and RMS), to Alan Scott or Andy Levien, the co-producers, no doubt, but it is above all thanks to the Thugs and their very clear vision of how they want to sound, without complexes regarding Americans and English; they simply make the music they want to hear. The seven tracks of "Electric Troubles" will be recorded and mixed in July 1987, in three and a half days, without rushing. The Thugs know what they want and how to get it.
