MARC MINKOWSKI AND THE MUSICIANS OF THE LOUVRE DELIVER AN INTIMATE PERFORMANCE OF MOZART'S NEVER-ENDING MASS.
Marc Minkowski and The Musicians of the Louvre present a new recording of Mozart's Mass in C minor, whose iconic Kyrie is one of the most cherished pieces of religious music ever written. Mozart played parts of the mass in 1783 but the score remained unfinished, making the use of a scholarly edition necessary for a complete performance. Despite its unfinished state, Mozart's Mass in C minor has gained popularity and now holds a place in the choral repertoire.
For this recording, made in connection with a series of concerts, Minkowski chose the 1985 edition by Helmut Eder for the Neue Mozart Ausgabe. He performs it in a formation close to that of chamber music with The Musicians of the Louvre, a small ripieno choir and four exceptional soloists: Ana Maria, Labin Ambroisine, Bré Stanislas de Barbeyrac, and Norman Patzke.
Since their founding in 1982 and under the direction of its founder and music director Marc Minkowski, The Musicians of the Louvre have become one of the best period instrument ensembles in the world, with an extensive discography.
This recording marks their debut on PENTATONE.
