Here are four exceptional Grand Motets composed by Lully for the greater glory of Louis XIV: Plaude Laetare Gallia was performed in 1668 to celebrate the joyous birth of his first son, the Grand Dauphin; Benedictus features extraordinary architecture and transcends sacred drama; Notus in Judea Deus, composed in 1685 shortly before Lully's death, is a true song of victory celebrating the Glory of God; finally, Domine Salvum fac Regem, the energetic "God save the King," was systematically sung in honor of the Sovereign. The sublime Magnificat by Henry Du Mont, who was in charge of the King's Chapel Music until 1683, adds even more splendor. Stéphane Fuget has gathered the best performers, a true "army of generals" where the large choir consists of as many soloists, to bring these mythical works of Versailles magnificence back to life.
