Amazones Power

Description

A shimmering and rhythmic musical journey carried by the most powerful voices of the African continent, discover the second album by the collective Les Amazones d'Afrique. The first all-female supergroup in West Africa, Les Amazones d'Afrique is a global music phenomenon; a creative force that embraces international voices, sweet and strong harmonies that advocate for the rights of women and girls, and a fusion of heritage and new talent. The collective was formed in 2014 in Bamako, Mali, by three major stars of Malian music and activists for social change: Mamani Keïta, Oumou Sangaré, and Mariam Doumbia. The collective has since expanded to include many female artists from Africa and the diaspora. While their cause—advocating for gender equality and eradicating ancestral violence—is worthy in itself, their creative musical expression is just as powerful. Richly melodic and far-reaching, it blends Pan-African styles and collaborative harmonies with contemporary pop, and the Congotronix production of legendary producer Doctor L (aka Liam Farrell). Their first album was widely acclaimed by the international press. "La Dame et ses valises" was named among Obama's favorite songs of 2017.
