A new signing of the Erato label, the Franco-Italian mezzo-soprano Lea Desandre has chosen for this album the theme of the Amazons, which is very present in baroque music, this myth of warrior women playing with the ambiguity of genders, which inspired composers such as Cavalli, Vivaldi, Couperin, Rameau, and many others. Alongside Thomas Dunford and his superb Ensemble Jupiter, Lea Desandre has invited magnificent partners: Cecilia Bartoli, Véronique Gens, and William Christie. "Amazone" (which includes notably 16 world premieres) is a hymn to nature, a love story, and the poetic, universal, and timeless message of a sentimental and emotional journey. The voice of Lea Desandre, both deep and sensitive, vibrant and profound, powerful and poetic, perfectly illustrates an inspiring and liberating allegory, that of the heroines of yesterday and today, that of the Amazons.
