Moiety baroque, moiety contemporary; moiety French, moiety British: this is the bet that Franck-Emmanuel Comte and the Concert de L’Hostel Dieu make for this record. This recording brings together in the same program the works of Lully and Purcell, and the contemporary creations of the French David Chalmin and the British Martyn Harry. While the former is inspired by Purcell and the latter by Lully, both combine the sounds of the baroque instrumentarium with their own language, opening the dialogue between the eras, the languages, and the borders. Axelle Verner lends her mezzo voice and her unique personality to the vocal pieces of this program.
