"Yes Indeed!" the tribute to Lazy Lester, concert recorded on August 16, 2003, in Périgueux, MNOP Festival. With Benoit Blue Boy & the Tortilleurs: Geraint Watkins, Stan Noubard Pacha, Thibaut Chopin, and Fabrice Millerioux. A twist of Lazy Lester, an incandescent Baton Rouge, and an unshakeable laziness from the depths of time... An almost forgotten recording that resurfaces in the light of memories... In 2003, the New Orleans Music Festival in Périgueux was three years old. The initial godfather from the year 2000, Benoit Blue Boy had an idea. And a good one: the meeting between Lazy Lester, a guiding figure of a certain idea of blues, and the Tortilleurs took place on the stage of the Gamenson park. Naturally... A first and unique rehearsal-soundcheck-setup and we were already there. At one point, Benoit suggested that some imagine themselves in the 60s in a remote part of Louisiana. No big efforts needed. The branches of the large trees in the park swayed under the weight of sparrows, and the humid breeze of mid-August did the rest. Hiding in a corner of the stage behind a big Hammond B3 lent for the occasion by an unrepentant guitar collector, the Welshman Geraint Watkins laid down the sauce in his own way. More Tabasco than Espelette, the binding quickly turned radical. In blues, there are those who love Jimmy Reed and the others. The old saying checked the first box of the questionnaire here. The Tortilleurs were confidently and freely getting into it. The rhythm section of Chopin/Millerioux ensured the fundamentals, and Stan Noubard Pacha's guitar seemed to come straight out of Excello. Why play all the notes when the right ones are enough? A shared conciseness between the guitarist, the harmonica player, and the singer. Lazy Lester would leave the harmonica parts to Benoit. A medal of knight of arts and letters could not have done better than this tacit accolade.
