Being a jazz musician often means facing the unexpected: booed yesterday, acclaimed today, ignored tomorrow, accustomed to basements or palaces, constantly on the move and prone to accidents, we navigate life at an angle, shaped by our encounters and commitments. That’s why, tossed about by our fates, the only reasonable way for us to maintain balance is undoubtedly to cultivate a affectionately ironic distance towards everything that happens to us, as if we were characters in a film written by someone else, discovering the plot twists as we go along. The director and the screenwriter keep changing; sometimes it’s a drama, sometimes a comedy, sometimes an action film, or even a story where everything and nothing happens at the same time, much like in Godard, who left us the day before we entered the studio. These are some of the moments or sensations that inspired the titles of this recording, with the complicity of Donald and Jérôme, who cultivate with rare elegance this way of being fully engaged in their art while maintaining a perspective filled with humor. The result is this trio album where the conversation flows freely, a sort of soundtrack to the film of our lives, the tomorrows of which remain to be written, but whose present expresses all the joy and pleasure of playing together.
