PEACE OF MINE (vinyl)

Description

"To fly away, to escape, to get away... Perhaps this is what 'Peace of Mine' invites you to do? An album full of surprises that takes you to other lands and revives your own memories. It is with the talented Grégory Privat, Tilo Bertholo, Inor Sotolongo, and Zacharie Abraham that Laura offers us refined and colorful music, a clever blend of jazz, afro, and soul influences sublimated by her enchanting voice... Laura Prince's universe? Authenticity and sincerity. A writer, composer, and performer, she wishes to remain in harmony with herself and the world around her. She champions a refined music that speaks of her childhood fears, the diversity of her roots, and her heartbreaks. She has an atypical journey, one that shapes and inspires. Daughter of Togo and France, she has always been lulled by world music: Celia Cruz's Cuban salsa, Fela Kuti's afrobeat, and Manu Dibango's Makossa, but also by the emotion of Piaf and Barbara, the cry of Brel, and the swing of Aznavour... Influenced alongside her father by the music of Mozart and Bach, she intuitively trained her ear, singing and playing her first compositions on a small piano given to her by her mother. Around the age of 13, she learned to read music and master harmony to accompany herself on the piano. She composed and performed her first piano/vocal pieces: "A young heart with an old soul". She was passionate about the era of civil rights advocacy, the birth of blues and jazz, when people sang with their "guts," and which saw the birth of her favorite artists: Nina Simone, Dinah Washington, Ray Charles, Etta James... She then took dance classes (jazz, hip hop/house, and salsa), drew, and became interested in cinema. All these artistic influences inspired her to create her own music. After her baccalaureate, still curious about her origins, she studied ethnomusicology at the University of Paris X. At 19, she worked on her voice and took gospel singing lessons at Studio Bleu in Paris. At the same time, she became a section leader (alto) and resumed piano lessons with Philippe Baden Powell. Despite personal trials, moves, and odd jobs, Laura continued to live her passion for music. She traveled from the Americas to Asia, from Europe to Africa, and especially to Togo, her native country, from where she returned grown and inspired. She definitively chose music, the one that heals her, comforts her, frees her, and affirms her. She then made a music video covering "Everybody's got to learn sometime" by "The Korgis." James Warren and Al Steele validated her project by broadcasting the video on their own networks. In 2019, she produced her album 'Peace of Mine' with Grégory Privat on piano, Tilo Bertholo on drums, Zacharie Abraham on double bass, and Inor Sotolongo on percussion. Through this album, she shares with us her inner peace that came with time, that of little Laura who used to hide to escape storms and who already listened to the sounds of the winds of Africa and Navarre." "A sublime voice and extraordinary musicians..." --- TSF JAZZ ---. "Authentic, organic, sincere. These are the key words that characterize Laura Prince's universe." INDISPENSABLE Europe 1 - Favorite, Eva Roque, Europe 1 ---.
