Hans-Eberhard Dentler, a doctor but also an extraordinary cellist and student of Pierre Fournier, a recognized musician and founder of the Bach Association in Italy, dedicated many years of his career to the realization of this work. He wanted to rework Bach's score while remaining true to the spirit of this composer. He created a real concept for his ensemble L’Arte della Fuga that combines his expertise in Bach with musical practice and artistic aspects. The enigma of this work can be solved when one understands its inscription in the Pythagorean scale. Dentler's edition, composed for violin, viola, cello, double bass, and bassoon, is a completely well-thought-out arrangement.
