Corps Perdu - Vinyle

Description

Corps Perdu is the result of Lamin Fofana's ongoing artistic practice, which involves creating immersive and multisensory sound environments, nourished and inspired by the richly historical texts written by researchers and poets within the tradition of "Black Studies." The words of W.E.B. Du Bois, Sylvia Wynter, Dionne Brand, Fred Moten, Édouard Glissant, Suzanne Césaire, and Aimé Césaire are transformed and disseminated in sound form, offered to listeners through radio, live events, albums, and installations. Fofana pays homage to his sources with an audible historical consciousness, but his sounds always simultaneously open up to the tumultuous uncertainties of the present. The music heard on the album Corps Perdu was premiered during a series of collective reading and listening sessions held in Paris, Barcelona, Tunis, and New York, where public voices read aloud excerpts from a corpus of texts selected by Fofana. The spontaneous unfolding of these moments of attentive reading and listening, mixed live by Fofana during these collective listening experiences, reflects the open nature of Corps Perdu. The album, now released, is just one iteration among many in this ongoing exploration of the relationship between sound and text.
