Description

The text I Grilli (the crickets) at the origin of this album offers a sketch of a vision of Corsican music, its identity, but also its multiple influences. It is composed of 3 verses used to give birth to interconnected subsets of songs (sometimes the text is sung in its entirety, while other times, a single verse is enough to introduce a subset, revealing unique musical nuances). The goal of this album is to provide an immersive experience in which each song, while having its own identity, fits into a global creation of which the text I Grilli is the guiding thread. Polyphony, which is largely present, is the basis of the research work; it occupies a central place in the genesis of the album, which continues the compositional work of the previous A` principiu. Creative inspiration is fostered by the geographical position of the island, its history, but also by a musical approach deliberately oriented towards other horizons. The part integrating ancient writings, preceded by a Currente (improvised text on a traditional tune) of creation, is imbued with a sound atmosphere in line with the musical identity of the group. An important place is given to compositions in the style of "Corsican cabaret song," inspired by the works of emblematic singers from the pre-Riacquistu period (a cultural movement that emerged in Corsica in the 1970s), where Corsican music began to evolve while remaining deeply rooted in the island's musical traditions. A reading of the text I Grilli introduces this part. The album concludes with a nanna (lullaby) and a series of unclassifiable pieces that perfectly illustrate the group's research work.
