The young Israeli maestro Lahav Shani, conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra for five years, leads the Dutch ensemble in the epic Symphony No. 7 by Bruckner. Grandiose and contemplative, Bruckner's Seventh Symphony was written under the shock of the death of Richard Wagner, the idol who inspired the poignant chorale of the second movement. The critic from Gramophone magazine praised "... a recording that feels like rediscovering .... Shani has a wonderful sense of atmosphere ... (He) reminds me how painfully beautiful the slow movement of this piece is ... and I don't think I have ever heard the transition to the silent final pages as breathtaking ... A magnificent recording."
