Giaches de Wert, a Flemish composer associated with the fabulous courts of Mantua and Ferrara, paved the way for the innovations of madrigal writing, this seconda prattica that is most often associated with Monteverdi. This recording includes some of his last madrigals on Tasso’s Gierusalemme liberata and Battista Guarini’s Pastor fido.
