Laudarium: songs of popular devotion from 14th-century Italy - 2 CD

Description

Here is a rich and varied anthology of Italian monophonic Laude from the two main sources: the manuscripts of Cortona (c. 1270) and Florence (c. 1320), centered on their common themes: the cult of the Virgin Mary and devotion to the saints. In the presentation booklet, detailed texts illustrate the musicological research methods used to reconstruct this repertoire as well as its social, historical, cultural, and religious significance, elements on which La Reverdie based its unique interpretive approach.
