L'Aura Mia Sacra

Description

Written for four to seven voices, these madrigals by Cipriano de Rore and Adrian Willaert, Flemish Renaissance composers exiled in Italy, enjoyed great renown and lasting influence. What a marvel these compositions are, bringing words and phrases to life and making them sparkle in such a distinctive way, both learned and fluid... Like a painting in which one would discover every detail before stepping back a little and being struck by the sight of the whole work and its frame, each piece is born from a multitude of sonic events, creating a complete universe each time. The poetic and musical alchemy at work uniquely magnifies the meaning, syntax and sonic beauty of Petrarch's Canzoniere - a collection recounting the Tuscan poet's loves for Laura, who became the emblematic figure of the Muse. Nearly six centuries later, Aragon would let the name of Elsa, his own muse, be read in the epigraph of the edition he produced (in collaboration with Picasso) of five of the Tuscan poet's Sonnets: “They said Laura was somebody ELSE”. This is the title of the 5 Mélodies composed by Alexandros Markéas, a distant echo of the first madrigals of the Renaissance, and a renewed tribute to the Muses who inspire our lives.
