After celebrating the 10th anniversary of Wildlife and Rooms Of The House, LaDispute returns with NO ONE WAS DRIVING THE CAR, their fifth album and first entirely self-produced. Composed between Grand Rapids, Detroit, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the Philippines, the record draws new energy at every stage. Partly inspired by the film First Reformed (2017), the album explores contemporary malaise and the anxiety of a world in decline, worsened by technology. Its title refers to a phrase taken from an article about a fatal accident involving a Tesla in autonomous mode, an absurd image that questions our loss of control over our own lives. Across 14 powerful tracks, the band (Jordan Dreyer, Brad Vander Lugt, Chad Morgan-Sterenberg, Corey Stroffolino, and Adam Vass) searches for meaning, a form of stability at the heart of chaos — an album as political as it is existential.
