Music in the Spain of Philip IV

Description

In autumn 1624, Wolfgang Wilhelm, Count of Neuburg and Duke of Bavaria, went to the court of Madrid, where he stayed for six months. He was captivated by the extraordinary music that was played in the castle. It contains profane polyphonic tonos, which are Spanish songs that flourished at the end of the 17th century. They are witnesses to an exuberant soundscape that surrounded the festivities of a colorful society at the court of Spain at that time.
