On did not yet know this sober facet of La Chica. After her EP Oasis (2017) and her first album Cambio (2019), La Chica had accustomed us to a warm energy and strong colors, between Latin American rhythms, songs in Spanish, and Western pop. With La Loba, the second full-length she reveals today, the Franco-Venezuelan artist shows her folklore in a more mystical and nebulous light, in an album dedicated to her late brother, where voice and piano converse in intimacy.
La Loba is an album that tells of suffering and the beyond, but it possesses nothing that could be considered bland and déjà-vu weeping. On the contrary, it is through magical stories inspired by Venezuelan folklore that La Chica addresses these themes, in songs full of hope and strength. An album that is listened to like one reads a novel.
