Christoph Eschenbach, a specialist in the repertoire of the early 20th century, presents orchestral works and orchestral lieder by Franz Schreker on the occasion of the 145th anniversary of the composer in 2023. Accompanied by soprano Chen Reiss and baritone Matthias Goerne, Eschenbach dedicates himself to the rarely performed treasures of Schreker's lieder repertoire. Such as the cycle 'Fünf Gesänge' on texts by the Austrian poet Edith Ronsperger and 'Vom ewigen Leben' on poems by the American Walt Whitman. This double album includes the Chamber Symphony, the Little Suite, and the Romantic Suite, the 'Nachtstück', an instrumental intermezzo from the opera 'Der Ferne Klang' that made Schreker famous overnight, as well as the very popular 'Waltz Lente' in the Viennese style. One happily discovers a soft and late romantic music, the 'distant sound' of other utopian worlds...
