The Salzburg Recital

Description

Deutsche Grammophon presents the sensational recital by Russian pianist Evgeny Kissin, recorded at the Salzburg Festival last summer. An adventurously idiosyncratic concert program bringing together works by Chopin, Berg and Gershwin. This colorful recital is presented in two parts: the first half brings together three early 20th-century composers from entirely opposite musical traditions: Austria, Russia and the United States. The second part of the recital is devoted entirely to the music of Frédéric Chopin. It is followed by Alban Berg’s incredibly expressive Piano Sonata, and the rhythmic vitality and lightness of Gershwin’s Three Preludes for piano. This highly memorable concert, which Evgeny Kissin dedicated to his teacher Anna Pavlovna Kantor, culminates in three encores including Debussy’s Clair de lune, a composition by Kissin himself and one of Mendelssohn’s Songs Without Words.
