En Italie
Description
Homage to the Queens of the Villa Medici!Pianist Kishin Kagai and violinist Magdalena Geka were captivated by a piece by Marguerite Canal during a concert. This joy of playing and the audience's pleasure were the origin of this album project centered on other French female composers who won the Prix de Rome. Long forbidden to women, the competition admitted its first female laureate in 1911: Lucienne Heuvelmans, a sculptor. The counterpoint and fugue class at the Paris Conservatory was itself forbidden to women until the end of the 19th century, and the possibility of competing for the Prix de Rome was only granted to them from 1903: Lili Boulanger became its very first female laureate in 1913, followed by Marguerite Canal in 1920 and then Jeanne Leleu in 1923.
