Tre Voci brings together American violist Kim Kashkashian, Italian-American flutist Marina Piccinini, and Israeli harpist Sivan Magen, three musicians renowned for each bringing new perspectives to their instrument. They met at the Marlboro Music Festival in 2010, and from their first concert, they agreed on the extraordinary potential of their ensemble. This first record is organized around the Sonata for flute, viola, and harp composed by Debussy in 1915, seeking to uncover its influence in later works, particularly sensitive in Takemitsu's shimmering piece "And then I knew 'twas wind." Debussy was particularly touched by his discovery of Eastern musical traditions, and his later works reflect this both in terms of colors, textures, and timbres, as well as in the introduction of a new relationship to time, more fluctuating. Gubaidulina has said that she considers herself "the child of two worlds, whose soul is nourished by the music of both East and West."
