His professional training and passion have led him to tour and record alongside some of the most renowned artists, singers and musicians of the moment, including D'Angelo, Sean 'Diddy' Combs, Jay Z, Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, Maroon 5 and Frank Ocean. As an artist, Kenneth Whalum is forging a new musical direction. With captivating intensity, his work pushes the conventional boundaries of contemporary emerging artists by blending alternative sounds, soul, hip-hop, jazz, R&B and blues. In 2015, he released his first alternative soul single, "Ghost Town", followed by the track "Might Not Be Ok" with hip-hop artist Big K.R.I.T the following year and the album Broken Land in 2017. With Broken Land 2, he builds on darker chords as a form of therapeutic relief. Describing himself as a loner who faces his highs and lows on his own, Kenneth takes stock with "Prayer" and calls for prayers for him. The single "Party" dissects the way the games we play and manipulation influence others' perception of a situation they do not understand. Broken Land 2 is made up of both questions and truths, and whether one wants to talk about it publicly or not, people have continued to live through these very real situations. Broken Land 2 was conceived as a remedy, both for Kenneth and for others.
