Kendra Morris's conceptual album, Next, released in 2025 and inspired by a board game, quickly became a fan favorite, topping several year-end lists and establishing itself as one of the most creative album promotion campaigns. Six months after the album's release, Karma Chief is thrilled to present a 45 featuring a standout track and an exclusive dub remix. “Flat Tire,” the song that announced the album, pays homage to 1960s reggae. Inspired by the records Kendra's parents brought back from their trips to Jamaica, this track offers a catchy and infectious chorus that will stick in your head. “Flat Tire” was recorded with vintage equipment and mixed through a Tascam 388. It also features Ray Jacildo, a collaborator of The Back Keys and Yola, on piano and organ. The B-side of the 45 offers a dub remix of “Flat Tire” by the essential Paul Cherry. The final result is a perfect echo of classic late-60s dub, taking the fundamental elements of the track… further stripping down the production, accentuating the reverb, and adding judiciously placed echoes, breaks, and delays.
