Bridging the gap between classical and Broadway, between the old and the new world… This program is primarily the result of a meeting between two artists: Kate Lindsey, a lyric singer whose career is taking off, excelling in Mozart and Purcell but who grew up with Broadway music, from Gershwin to Cole Porter; and Baptiste Trotignon, an award-winning jazz pianist who has shared the stage with great names such as Brad Mehldau and Tom Harrell, but who has always been interested in classical music and even composed a piano concerto premiered by Nicholas Angelich. Together, they have created a program centered around the songs of Kurt Weill, from Nanna’s Lied to Trouble Man, including the standards from The Threepenny Opera, Lost in the Stars… For this journey in three languages at the dawn of jazz, Baptiste Trotignon has rearranged the piano parts and improvised on certain songs. The two artists also pay tribute to three composers who, like Weill, emigrated to the United States: Alma Mahler, Zemlinsky, and Korngold. The American mezzo-soprano based in London joins the Alpha label for several recordings over the coming years.
