Shop Girl is a five-track EP by Kate, conceived as the soundtrack to an imaginary musical. Produced and accompanied by Jonathan Rado, with Sam France, Tim Bernardes and Alex Heaney, the record blends influences from Lynsey De Paul, Kate Bush and The Extraordinaires’ rock opera Ribbons of War. The songs tell the story of a small shop run by three young women, moving between love stories, everyday life and a fascination with the fictional band Texaco. Driven by pop arrangements with late-’60s accents, the EP evokes George Martin, Lennon and McCartney while developing a personal take on this tradition, between Charlottesville and Los Angeles.
