In 2004, the trio of Karpatt, Frédéric Rollat known as Fred (gypsy guitar/vocals), Gaëtan Lerat known as Gets (guitar) and Hervé Jegousso known as RV (double bass), an amazing live band that had been hitting the road for years, set off again with a brand-new stone, the album Dans le caillou, “to play it for everyone who had smiled at us sometimes and lent us their beds at other times.” Twelve years later, the stone has rolled a long way, and from its adventures the vinyl of this album, now considered a cult classic, has finally arrived. Dans d'beaux draps, the sheets used to make a small cabin for the “at home” recording, with all the friends kindly thanked in the pen of Sébastien Thomazo, who also designed the cover and illustrations. Set to varied music, from gypsy swing to waltz, this album fits into the band’s continuity as it tells us these little everyday stories sketched by Fred Rollat with a prose all his own, a beautiful, flowing language rich in emotion, like the boss of “Le bar du silence”, “La shampouineuse” and “Lino” the cheater in a suit, or in which he says what he wants to say, plainly and without outbursts but with determination (“Militant”).
