Adele Hugo : Mélodies sur des poèmes de Victor Hugo

This album pays tribute to the composer Adèle Hugo (1830-1915), the fifth child of Victor, whose life was tragic as she, psychologically unstable, spent half of her life in mental health facilities, from the age of forty-two until her death at eighty-five. An exalted and very sensitive personality, she was passionate about music, learned piano and composition. Her musical manuscripts were recently discovered, and the director of the Victor Hugo Museums in Paris/Guernsey decided to entrust them to composer Richard Dubugnon for him to study and reconstruct this puzzle of (often fragmentary) scores forgotten for over a century… Fourteen melodies emerged from poems by Victor Hugo and excerpts from Les Misérables, as well as five melodies without lyrics. The Victor Hugo Orchestra and its musical director Jean-François Verdier logically joined the project and asked Dubugnon to orchestrate these pieces. Here they are presented by a high-level vocal ensemble, blending several generations.
