Kali city

Description

Kali City, Karim Baggili had been dreaming of it for a long time. With this album, he puts down his guitar to pick up his oud. A lute inseparable from an Arabic music that the artist has always held close to his heart and to which he pays tribute in the way only he knows how. “It soothes me, pierces me, I love it,” he sums up. Across two parts, the first with the three Joubran brothers (“graceful, generous and gifted”) and the second surrounded by his “Arabic Band” and his traditional instruments (kawala, ud, darbuka...), Karim Baggili invites us on a journey eastward and to that Jordan from which he keeps so many memories. Without simply settling for traditional tunes, he opens the door to modern and offbeat compositions, drawing inspiration from what makes up his identity and adding his personal touch, to ultimately remind us that music can and sometimes must go beyond borders to provide other sensations and open horizons.
