A friend of Edvard Grieg, she was an accomplished concert pianist and gave recitals throughout Europe, until deafness, which struck her at age thirty, pushed her toward teaching and composition. In this field, her preferences go to voice and piano, to which she offers miniatures of refined lyricism, in which the nature and landscapes of her native Norway often reflect states of the soul. Her very personal imagination, imbued with a thoroughly Scandinavian melancholy, both harsh and sensitive, permeates all the pieces gathered here by Karen Vourc'h and Anne Le Bozec.
