Description

This is the fourth unreleased album by Kapingbdi, a six-piece West African band describing themselves as “African Jazz-Funk-Rock from Libya.” It is a skilful blend of African and Western elements, with a spiritual core and dynamic rhythms. In January 1985 and shortly before the band’s dissolution, they recorded nine tracks for an aborted LP project at Masterpiece Studio in Detroit, USA. In 2019, the music was carefully remastered from the original 24-track tape. For Kapingbdi, music is not an end in itself, but serves to convey a message born of African experience and perspective, intended for everyone. Recorded in 1985 on 24 tracks at Masterpiece Studio in Detroit / USA, all music and lyrics are written by E. Kojo Samuels, except “Yakundé” (lyrics by Richard “Papa Jah” Addison and Samuel I. “Sam Kay” Kamara Foday).
