Hailing from Burkina Faso, Kady Diarra began her musical and dance training at a very young age through the oral tradition passed down by her griot parents. After numerous experiences as a singer, dancer, and choreographer in many troupes in Burkina Faso, she began her solo career in 1998. With over 600 concerts performed in Europe, Canada, and Africa, Kady Diarra offers, with infectious joy, a show that blends the sensuality of Sahelian music with the festive energy of African percussion. An explosive mix where ancestral tradition and a sense of celebration come together for an exhilarating performance. A voice and music full of energy and generosity, reflecting Burkina Faso itself – welcoming and a crossroads of multiple musical influences. In 2019, Kady Diarra is working on her new compositions, surrounded by her nephews Moussa Koïta (bass, percussion), Mamoudou Diarra (balafon, n'goni, percussion), Samba Diarra (flute, percussion), and guitarist Thierry Servien. A regular with African bands in Paris (Mory Kanté, Papa Wemba...), Thierry Servien has an incomparable feel for African polyrhythms. His jazz-rock flourishes, supported by the powerful rhythm section (bass, percussion, balafon), create a musical tapestry where Kady's voice expresses itself beautifully. At a time when African music is becoming urbanized, often losing its groove and emotion, Kady, rooted in the musical tradition in which she grew up, retains traditional instruments (balafon, n'goni) and draws inspiration from the melodies sung by her grandmother and mother during ceremonies in the Bwaba villages of western Burkina. But she and her musicians continue to carve out this fusion where traditional West African music is enhanced by energetic arrangements and tinged with Black American music.
