Alpha is delighted to reunite with the great flutist Juliette Hurel, who made several recordings for Zig-Zag Territoires (Outhere) in the past. This recording is the result of the successful meeting between the flutist and the Voce quartet and took place in the inspiring setting of the Ferme de Villefavard in Limousin. On his way to Paris, Mozart stayed in Mannheim in 1777 and received a commission for several works from an amateur flutist who was also a wealthy and distinguished surgeon formerly employed by the Dutch East India Company. The flute unquestionably establishes itself as a solo instrument in these scores, imbued with concertante writing and the galant style characteristic of the taste of the Mannheim court at that time. Some quartets were composed later in Vienna, such as the cheerful K. 298, whose each movement takes up a well-known tune, varied or parodied by Mozart.
