The award-winning Peruvian and Austrian tenor Juan Diego Flórez has just created his own label. This first album from the label is dedicated to zarzuela. It also marks the tenor's first recording with the Sinfonía por el Perú Youth Orchestra and Choir, an ensemble that is part of the social project he founded and supports. Juan Diego Flórez has built his reputation as a specialist in bel canto. By turning to zarzuela, he returns to the genre that opened the world of opera to him as a young singer and composer of popular songs. "These passionate and emotional romances represent an almost unique opportunity for Spanish and Latin American tenors to sing in their mother tongue," he says, describing his close connection to this Spanish form of comic opera or operetta, which is well-known and popular in the Hispanic world but less represented in other countries. By founding his own label, Juan Diego Flórez aims to share his artistic visions in a truly personal way. Upcoming releases will include solo albums, orchestral recitals, and complete operas. Having his own label also gives Mr. Flórez the opportunity to support projects with Sinfonía por el Perú and promote young artists. "This recording production fills me with joy and pride. First of all, because it is my first recording with the Sinfonía por el Perú Youth Orchestra and Choir - a social project that seeks to improve the lives of Peruvian children and youth through collective music practice - then because it was made in Lima, my hometown, and finally because it marks the launch of my own record label."
