Description

"Animative" is the new album by composer, producer, saxophonist, and synthesizer player Josh Johnson (SML, Jeff Parker ETA IVtet, Flea and The Honora Band), his third solo album and his first with International Anthem/Nonesuch. This album delves deeper into a territory that Johnson has been pursuing for years: live electroacoustic interpretations of deconstructed rhythmic jazz. The ten tracks on this album, co-produced by Johnson and Paul Bryan and enriched by contributions from Meshell Ndegeocello, Macie Stewart, Marquis Hill, Ben Lumsdaine, and others, represent a true feat of electroacoustic innovation. They brilliantly combine composition and technological ambition to create an enchanting blend of minimalist soul-jazz, post-bop, electronic minimalism, and dreamlike atmospheres.
