Although born in San Francisco, Josh Gray, an American singer-songwriter from Nashville, grew up thousands of miles away in Maryland. He got his first guitar at the age of 16, but only played his first concert 15 years later. When asked what took so long, he simply replies, "I wasn't ready." This theme of taking the time to do things right becomes evident when you hear his music. His thoughtful and often poetic lyrics linger long after the songs have ended. Josh Gray's sound is a blend of folk, blues, country, and rock that initially inspired him to pick up a guitar. He is a storyteller, a protest singer, and a poet, connecting generations and genres to form his distinctive style of American songwriting. In 2015, Josh Gray released his self-titled debut EP recorded in Frederick, MD, just a block away from the café where a friend dared him to play for the first time. That year, Josh Gray traveled nearly 30,000 miles in his car, performing all over MD, PA, WV, and VA, sometimes seven nights a week, playing shows and open mics. Seeking to improve his skills, Gray moved to Nashville in 2016. Gathering some of the best musicians in Music City, he formed his band, Josh Gray and the Dark Features. Lacking the funds to record, they turned to crowdfunding. They exceeded their goal, financing the album with the support of fans. "Songs of the Highway" was recorded on tape at the famous Bomb Shelter in East Nashville. Since its release, it has received rave reviews in Nashville and beyond. This second album allowed Gray to secure a distribution deal in the Netherlands. It was named one of the best albums of the decade by Hi-Tones Record Store in Rocklin, California. In the Netherlands, it was voted one of the top ten albums of 2019 out of 600 albums at Warenhuis Vanderveen Assen. In 2022, Josh Gray led another successful crowdfunding campaign to record his new album "Walk Alone." This time, he partnered with CRS in the Netherlands to distribute "Walk Alone" in record stores across Europe. "Songs Of The Highway" is being reissued here with tracks from his first EP added as bonuses.
