Symphonies Concertantes Symphonie en sol majeur

Description

Joseph Boulogne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges was a brilliant fencer, athlete, virtuoso violinist, and talented composer. He was among the early proponents of the hybrid symphonie concertante – a genre that combines the traditions of both the concerto and the symphony. This new format was the perfect platform for expressive inventiveness, offering new possibilities for textures through the addition of a second violin or viola. The Symphony in G major, which has all the typical effervescence of Haydn, is an excellent example of the French symphonic cosmopolitan style.
