Description

Jorge Pardo (born December 1, 1956) is a Spanish jazz and flamenco musician, tenor and soprano saxophonist, and flutist. He uses a hybrid musical language between root jazz and flamenco, and his style with the flute and saxophone is considered a reference of innovation. In 2013, he received the award for best European jazz musician, becoming the first Spaniard to receive the award from the French Jazz Academy. In 2015, he received the National Current Music Award.
Jorge Pardo's musical studies began at the age of 14 at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid. From the beginning, he felt drawn to jazz, a fact that materialized during his first performances with university groups.
After playing with several professional musicians, he formed Dolores, his first band, with Pedro Ruy-Blas, becoming a reference in the Spanish music scene. He would later meet Paco de Lucía, accompanying him on several of his world tours, sharing the stage with the greatest figures of international jazz.
Jorge Pardo then represents a new reference of fusion jazz in the early 1980s, having already developed his own roots style, which is reflected in his first LP as a soloist, a self-titled album released in 1982 on Blau. After being part of Paco de Lucía's sextet for a few years, Jorge Pardo joined Carles Benavent's sextet alongside Tino di Geraldo, Joan Albert Amargós, Gil Goldstein, Rubem Dantas, and Othello Molineux.
In 1995, he recorded, with Carles Benavent and Tino di Geraldo, the Concierto de Sevilla, in which the blending of Latin, flamenco, and jazz takes on its own dimension in the musical landscape.
With Francis Pose and J. Vázquez “Roper”, he founded the trio d'3, which has released two albums so far.
He has produced various albums as a soloist, making his mark evident in fusion and musical experimentation. El canto de los guerreros, Mira, and 2332 are part of this.
Since 2004, Jorge Pardo has participated in Chick Corea's international tour, called Touchstone Tour.
This new album is his 12th solo album, the last one dating from 2014. But he has recorded more than 50 albums since his beginnings, notably with Paco De Lucia, Carlos Benavent, Chano Dominguez, Pata Negra, but also MECANO.
