Description

Elected "Instrumental Solo Revelation" at the Victoires de la musique classique in 2020, French oboist Gabriel Pidoux stands out in both ancient and modern repertoires. He records here his first album, accompanied by pianist Jorge González Buajasan. This debut album features works by two female composers and three male composers, starting with the Three Romances by Robert Schumann, a masterpiece of chamber music for oboe, which Gabriel Pidoux has chosen to pair with the Three Pieces by Leopold Wallner (1847-1913), magnificent works that have never been recorded. The program also includes a transcription of the Three Romances by Clara Schumann. "These are heartfelt pieces. The romantic spirit was therefore present," notes Gabriel Pidoux. "Next is the Poem by Marina Dranishnikova (1929-1994), which is the only piece by this Russian composer that we found. It is quite a dark piece, very troubled, totally romantic although a bit later since it was written in the mid-20th century." Finally, a transcription of the famous Salut d'amour by Elgar completes this journey.
