Sonates pour violon, op.3

Description

The violinist and composer Gaspar Fritz (1716-1783) from Geneva studied under Giovanni-Battista Somis in Turin, then returned to his hometown of Geneva, marked by Calvinism. The lack of concerts in the city was partly compensated by evenings at the "Common Room," the club for English-speaking Genevans. Fritz blends Italian, French, and English influences in a virtuosic manner, with richly ornamented or improvised passages. The Bulgarian violinist Plamena Nikitassova studied baroque violin with Chiara Banchini at the Schola Cantorum Basieliensis and performs these works with astonishing lightness and ease. Her previous album of sonatas by Carlo Zuccari received a Diapason Découverte in 2012.
