Cancioneros Del Siglo De Oro 1451-1595

Description

Jordi Savall celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Capella Reial de Catalunya with this reissue in the Heritage series of 3 collections of songs - or Cancioneros - from the Spanish Golden Age published in 1991, 1992, and 1994.
These transcriptions of popular tunes made between 1451 and 1595 and gathered here for the first time allow for an unexpected access to a musical tradition beautifully revived by Jordi Savall.
The journey of the manuscripts themselves is rich in lessons: The Cancionero de la Colombina takes its name from the son of Christopher Columbus, Ferdinand, who acquired the manuscript in 1534 to integrate it into the collections of the Biblioteca Colombina in Seville. The Cancionero del Palacio takes its name from the Royal Palace of Madrid where it was rediscovered in 1870 while the Cancionero de Medinacelli was kept in the ducal library of the same name since the 16th century.
Like the repertoire it brings back to life, this unique overview shimmers with the thousand colors of the Spanish Renaissance.
