Description

Appearing in Joni Mitchell's "Archives" series, this 6-LP box set THE ASYLUM YEARS (1976-1980) looks back at her albums from the second half of the 70s, where Jazz became increasingly present in her songwriting: Hejira (1976 - which contains "Coyote", and "Furry Sings The Blues" with Neil Young on harmonica), Don Juan's Reckless Daughter (1977 - experimental double album which includes "Paprika Plains"), Mingus (1979 - to which Charles Mingus contributed) and the live album Shadows and Light (1980 - which notably contains "Amelia", "Dreamland", "The Dry Cleaner From Des Moines"). The famous bassist and composer Jaco Pastorius participated in each of these albums, alongside other jazzmen such as Charles Mingus and Herbie Hancock. The albums in this box set have been remastered by Bernie Grundman from the original analog masters. The abstract cover is based on an excerpt from an original painting by Joni Mitchell.
